Also I didn't talk to Lord British when stuck trying to work out what to do, but tried to find out what was needed without using his 'hints''. I set myself the goal of not using any online hints. If you want to play outside of Steam/GOG using the Apple II emulator, you can just install the game from the USB stick or the download and you'll have the latest version. If we tried to update the Steam and GOG versions to the latest (1.1.9), then because of the way Steam/GOG do their updates, it would immediately replace the HDV file on a user's system, which would erase their saved game. Since this is an emulated Apple II game, the save game file is stored directly within the disk image (the "HDV" file). However, you are correct that the version on Steam and GOG is 1.1.4. The latest version is indeed 1.1.9, which should be the version available on the USB stick within your Collector's Edition, and also on the download from the website. In almost all Steam games this wouldn't be an issue because your saved game would be stashed somewhere else. We're also gun shy about doing anything that would make it too easy for a player to blow away their saved game. To be honest, Mark and I aren't that familiar with Steam's install mechanisms. No worries on bringing the thread back! That's an interesting idea about adding a branch.
